NEWPORT MEDICAL CHALLENGE

We were asked to create a directory that would blend with the buildings aluminum details. We were also given a budget of $1000 and future name change outs had to be in the range of $20 per name.

Upon completion of the site inspection we assessed that the location and surrounding area was fairly secure so we choose to use one of our Flip-Up frames and accented it with aluminum arches and rods. The address numbers are laser cut acrylic with brushed metal backing to add durability and create depth.

We used a metal backer in the frame and silver, black and white engraving stock for the nameplates. We affixed a magnetic strip on the back of each nameplate to secure them in place. The final piece of the puzzle was a clear scratch resistant plastic cover with anti-glare finish.

We completed the project in a couple of weeks; well within our budget.

EMBASSY SUITES CHALLENGE

We were challenged by Embassy Suites to create an information kiosk and entry-exit signage. The criteria was simple and straight forward, create a three-sided island display and two wall mounted signs that would blend with their existing interior décor and give them the ability to easily change out daily information that they could print on their in-house printers and do this for under $2000.

First we were very fortunate that the management team at Embassy Suites had gone through architectural design projects and had a defined budget. Setting a budget is paramount; it is a waste of time and energy in designing a structure in which is beyond their means. As with all of our designs we meet as a team after we have gathered the information from the client. Then we break down the clients requests and make a list and prioritize each item.

After coming up with a design we will generate a layout with specific dimensions and material samples. We cannot stress enough how important it is to get a project started off smoothly and keeping to a set schedule. We have a saying at BC Displays "Take care of the front end so we don't have to look at our back ends" and that's the reality. As you can see by our sample board we address every detail and we got approval on our first round.

The materials that are selected play just as an important part as the design. We used Panolam which is a thermo-fused panel that comes in a wide array of finishes for the base unit. The edges and moldings are impact resistant PVC that we painted copper and antiqued with a brown glaze and sealed with a clear matt sealant. The windows (as we call them) are acrylic panels with the PVC molding and are affixed with brass piano hinges. We used magnets to keep the window secure.

In conclusion we gave the client a stable kiosk that was very user friendly, blended the design to the entry-exit signs and made it all flow with their existing décor. We later added acrylic brochure and business card holders on the Enterprise Rental Car side. And our final budget came to $1880 a $120 under budget. We also came up with a way to disassemble the unit for shipping. We are in the process of building a 4 sided prototype with hardware that will adapt to a variety of applications. We look to be featuring the kiosk as a new product soon.
